This is an exciting time for Education Scotland as it implements significant reform to secure better outcomes for children and young people across Scotland.

We are looking for transformational leaders who can drive system and culture change, and support the delivery of their education and skills reform commitments, creating change across the education system.

Education Scotland will enhance national support for Scottish education by focusing primarily on improving curriculum design, delivery, and resources for high-quality learning and teaching.

This is an excellent opportunity to join the team at a pivotal moment in time, and to significantly influence the direction of travel for Scottish education.

The Chief Executive of Education Scotland and His Majesty’s Chief Inspector of Education in Scotland are both executive level, Senior Civil Service (SCS) Pay Band 2 grade, with a salary scale of £108,393 – £117,329.

Both roles will exercise significant personal autonomy and decision making, will work with leaders across education and with Government, regularly advising on complex issues in areas of strong public, media and political interest and scrutiny.

Chief Executive of Education Scotland

The Chief Executive of Education Scotland will lead efforts to refocus the organisation and strengthen its role in the education system, prioritising curriculum design, innovation, and improvement. They will engage with senior leaders to drive performance enhancement, backed by evidence and judgment.

His Majesty’s Chief Inspector of Education in Scotland

Salary: £108,393
Closing Date: 06/10/2024

The Chief Inspector will lead a new independent education inspectorate, overseeing quality, raising standards, and improving outcomes for children, young people, and adult learners. Transforming the inspection approach, they will drive cultural change and support Scottish education improvement effectively. This leader will focus on inspection outcomes, and help to establish a respected public body.
