What is common citizenship?

Common citizenship is an agreement between the Scottish Government and its main agencies which allows colleagues from relevant organisations to apply for internal vacancies.

Opportunities are only available to staff who currently work for the following organisations: 

  • The Scottish Prisons Service
  • The Crown Office Procurator Fiscal Service
  • Food Standards Scotland
  • Registers of Scotland
  • Revenue Scotland
  • The Scottish Court Service

How to apply

Common citizenship employees can apply for all advertised posts where they can demonstrate the required skills and competencies. Candidates should inform their manager of an intention to apply for any of the opportunities before completing an application.

Colleagues transferring into the Scottish Government from a common citizenship area will be subject to checks before the transfer is confirmed.
