Financial Accountant

Supporting the preparation and delivery of the Scottish Government’s annual accounts, coordinating external audit activity, and helping to strengthen financial controls, reporting processes and governance across the organisation.

Finance Manager

Leading a finance team to provide expert financial advice, budget monitoring and high-quality management information and insights to enable senior leaders to make informed decisions.

Both roles offer the opportunity to work on matters of national importance, collaborating with a wide range of stakeholders across government. These pivotal positions require strong financial expertise, sound judgement, and the ability to communicate complex financial matters clearly and effectively to support decision-making and accountability.

What you’ll be working on

You’ll have responsibility for one of two key areas: 

As a Finance Manager within Financial Management and Reporting, you will have responsibility for a finance team which is aligned to Scottish Government Director General business areas, and lead this to provide professional advice on financial challenges and opportunities, support corporate financial exercises, and enable decision making through monthly budget monitoring and insights.   Communication and effective stakeholder relationships are essential aspects of the role, with Finance Teams the link between business areas and the  strategic centre of the organisation.

Digital roles

As Financial Accountant, you will support the preparation and delivery of the Scottish Government Consolidated Annual Accounts, ensuring compliance with requirements, coordinating  external audit schedules and activities, and driving improvements to data and associated checks and controls. This role also requires good communication and effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure timely delivery of processes and information, and to help support financial capability and continuous improvement across the organisation. 


Who we’re looking for 

The successful candidate must be a fully qualified CCAB or CIMA (or equivalent) accountant with up-to-date CPD.
