Using AI Tools

Using Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools during recruitment

Artificial intelligence (AI) resources such as ChatGPT and Copilot are powerful tools which can create and edit text, simulating what people can do.

These tools can help to enhance your application and prepare for the recruitment process, but it is essential you use them appropriately.

Acceptable uses of AI

During the recruitment process, we want to find out about you. It’s important that your application should accurately and authentically represent your skills and experiences, so we can understand how you would fit a role with the Civil Service.

You can use AI tools to:

  • Refine and improve your ideas
  • Research our organisation and subjects related to the role
  • Prepare for interview by practising questions

Unacceptable uses of AI

AI tools should never be used as a substitute for your personal input. We are interested in in finding out about your unique insights, skills and professional experience.

You should never use AI tools to:

  • answer questions or create statements on your behalf
  • misrepresent or embellish your skills, experience or work history
  • complete live assessments or in interviews
