A national leadership role in planning
In this senior leadership role, you will drive forward improvements to Scotland’s planning system, ensuring it enables development delivery and supports national priorities.
You will lead a skilled team, oversee planning and consenting decisions and provide clear, robust advice to Ministers. Engaging with senior stakeholders across the sector, you will help ensure effective collaboration to support investment and growth.
Applicants must be a qualified and Chartered planning professional with significant experience and in-depth knowledge of the Scottish planning system.

What you’ll lead
Acting as Deputy Chief Planner and Head of Division, you will lead the operation of the planning system, overseeing statutory decisions and advising Ministers to minimise legal risk.
You will drive forward planning reform, support professional leadership within government, and work closely with senior stakeholders to ensure effective collaboration and delivery across the planning system.


Who we’re looking for
We’re looking for a highly experienced, qualified and Chartered planning professional with in-depth knowledge of the Scottish planning system, NPF4 and relevant legislation.
You’ll bring significant experience in the planning profession, and collaborative and strategic leadership. You’ll be able to work at pace, lead high-performing teams and engage effectively with senior stakeholders across government and the wider sector.
