The Government Legal Service for Scotland
The Government Legal Service for Scotland (GLSS) is a community of lawyers in government in Scotland which exists in order to:
- provide shared services to member offices, associate offices and their legal staff;
- promote contacts, share information and develop skills and knowledge among lawyers in its member offices and associate offices; and
- raise awareness of the roles of lawyers in government.

About our Legal Traineeship
A GLSS Legal Traineeship offers a dynamic start to your legal career. You’ll have the opportunity to work at the heart of government, on a range of diverse and impactful public law matters.
As part of our team, you’ll work across various areas from education to immigration, and have the opportunity to contribute and engage with a range of work streams, such as shaping policy, or high profile litigation.
This programme is 2-years long, and will commence in September 2026.
Who can apply?
We are seeking applications from students or graduates, of:
- Scots Law LLB
- Accelerated LLB
- Diploma in Professional Legal Practice
