What you’ll be doing

Planning Hub Advisers may be appointed on a flexible basis to support planning authorities through the National Planning Hub.

This could involve contributing to specific projects or tasks, such as helping to unblock stalled development sites, providing specialist input on planning applications, or supporting local development plan work.

Appointments are made in response to identified needs and may vary in duration and scope. Advisers work independently, often remotely, and collaborate with other professionals as part of a wider network coordinated by the Scottish Government and the Improvement Service.

Person Specification

We’re looking for experienced professionals with a relevant qualification in planning, urban planning, environmental management, architecture, surveying, civil engineering, or law.

You should have:

  • Relevant experience and technical qualifications or professional memberships for your specialism
  • The ability to work independently and meet tight deadlines
  • Knowledge of the planning system, including development planning/management is also desirable

Desirable Specialist Expertise

We are particularly interested in applicants with expertise in:

  • Flood risk assessment
  • Infrastructure planning and delivery
  • Transport assessment
  • Biodiversity
  • Development economics and viability
  • Historic environment and archaeology
  • Environmental health (noise, air quality, nuisance)
  • Peat
  • Landscape architecture
  • Environmental Impact Assessment
  • Strategic Environmental Assessment

Working Pattern

Opportunities will be offered on a flexible, ad hoc basis. Work will be carried out on a self-employed arrangement, allowing professionals to contribute as and when opportunities arise.

Remuneration

Competitive rates will be offered and discussed during the appointment process. Travel expenses will be paid in line with Scottish Government policy.
